Hello all you wonderful animal lovers!!
My name is Sassafras (Sass, Sassy, Miss Sassy and my favorite: Sassy Pants). I am majestic in both my size and personality, being part Newfoundland and Shepherd. I just celebrated my second birthday.
It's been almost a year that I've been waiting for someone to adopt me. I was surrendered by a human who didn't love me, and left me in a small room most of the time.
Since arriving here, I have learned what love is, and I tell you, some days I feel my heart will burst when they play and cuddle with me! Alas, it seems that though I am popular, there is nobody willing to share his or her home with me just yet.
Some days are harder than others. The shelter is busy during the day, but it's when they leave to go home that I get really lonely. Sometimes I meet new furry friends, but they never stay too long. Just like my friends, I walk nicely on a leash, I play and lick, I sit and give paw when asked to, but it doesn't seem to work for me the way it does for my friends.
Oh, don't get me wrong. I know I'm not perfect. You see, given my past experience, I don't trust easily, and I am really afraid of strangers. I bark, telling them I don't know them, and I guess this scares them. Honestly, I just wish someone would show me how to react to new humans, so that they can respect I need to take it reeeeeeeeeal slow.
The people at the shelter really "get" me. I have bonded with so many of them. They take me for forest walks, car rides, pup cups and sometimes as a special treat, a slumber pawty at their house.
On adventures, I wear my muzzle and I mind my own business when out in public, as long as everyone else minds theirs!
