DLPT's Yount Artist Competition is open to performers age 21 and younger.

Aspiring singers, take note: Drury Lane Theatrical Productions (DLPT) is launching its first Young Artist Competition this spring, with cash prizes and a chance to perform at this year's Awards Gala.

The competition, which aims to support and shine a light on promising young artists in Burlington and the surrounding area, is open to singers age 21 or under. There is no minimum age requirement, however, only candidates 14 and under are eligible for the Emerging Artist award. Applicants will be required to perform a musical theatre song from a staged Broadway musical.

Winners will be selected in the junior (14 and under) and senior (15-21) categories.

The first-place winner will receive $500 and perform as a soloist at the Awards Gala in June. An Emerging Artist will be selected from the junior division; they will receive $300 and a mention at the gala. Both winners will be highlighted on the DLPT's website and social media pages.

Entrants must choose a song from a staged Broadway musical that is age appropriate and doesn't include long instrumental sections; accompaniment can be either live or a backing track. Costumes are not required, but are encouraged, and minimal props may be used.

Those who wish to enter can fill out the online application form and upload a video of themselves performing their selected piece. They must also submit a $20 application fee via eTransfer to [email protected], password "youngartist".

The top 20 submissions will be selected to perform on April 21 and the top 10 competitors move on to the final round on April 22.

Deadline for applications is April 6, 2023 and performers who are selected will be notified via email by April 10, 2023.
