UPDATE: Milton man charged with second-degree murder in stabbing death

At the request of the family, police will not be identifying the victim

11:38 a.m. update:

A Milton man is facing murder charges following the stabbing death of a woman in the nearby town last night.

Police say 40-year-old Asad Rasheed has been charged with second-degree murder.

He has been remanded into custody pending a court appearance on Nov. 28.

"The Halton Regional Police Service would like to extend sincerest condolences to the family and friends of the victim during this difficult time," police said in a press release. "At the request of the family, police will not be identifying the victim."

10:24 p.m. update:

The Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) has made an arrest in relation to a homicide investigation in Milton.

Police say the situation began around 5:45 p.m. Nov. 22, when they were called to a residence in the area of Farmstead Drive and Gosford Crescent in Milton. 

“Officers located a female victim at the residence and she was rushed to hospital by EMS,” police said in a press release. “Tragically, the victim has been pronounced deceased.”

Police say they located and arrested a 40-year-old man around 7 p.m. in Milton. He’s currently in custody and charges are pending.

The HRPS Homicide Unit has taken charge of the investigation and additional details are forthcoming.

Police say they’re not looking for additional suspects and there’s no related threat to public safety.

Halton Regional Police Service is searching for a male suspect after a stabbing incident that occurred in Milton. 

According to the police, one victim was transported to hospital in life-threatening condition.

The suspect is identified as Asad Rasheed, and police describe him as a 40-year-old male who is believed to be to be driving a red Toyota RAV 4.

Police ask anyone who sees Rasheed to not approach him and call 911 or the police immediately.
