Former Team Canada players, Tennis Canada execs on hand to welcome the iconic trophy to town

Local tennis fans were excited to welcome the iconic Davis Cup to Burlington Friday afternoon.

The 700-pound trophy, which is awarded by the International Tennis Federation to the top men's team each year, made a stop at Cedar Springs Health, Racquet & Sports Club. For the first time in the Cup's history, Canada won the title in 2022.

Tennis Canada Hall of Fame member Pierre Lamarche, who played in the Davis Cup in 1974 and went on to coach the men's team, was on hand during the Burlington visit.

"Not many people get to grow up and realize their dreams," he said of Canada's victory.

Several former Team Canada members and Tennis Canada executives were also on hand to visit with the trophy, including Matthew Klinger, Simon Bartram, Ari Novick, Doug Burke and Hatem McDadi.
