Police arrest female suspect in chemical attack on Milton woman

The victim is currently in stable condition at the hospital with 'life-altering' injuries, say police

The Halton Regional Police have arrested a female in relation to a chemical attack on a Milton woman that occurred on March 9.

Police say the suspect approached the victim when she was walking in the area of Syer Drive and Maxted Crescent in Milton around 1:25 p.m. and threw an unknown chemical onto the victim. 

The suspect then took the victim's cell phone and fled the scene.

The chemical caused severe burns to the victim's face and body, Halton Police said in a news release. The victim was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries. 

Officers later determined that the suspect was a family member of the victim.

On March 15, Halton Police arrested the suspect in Montreal.

A 57-year-old female from Quebec is now facing the following charges:

  • Aggravated assault
  • Administer a noxious substance
  • Robbery

She has been held in custody pending a bail hearing. Police will not identify the accused to respect the privacy of the family.

The victim is currently in stable condition at the hospital; however, police say the injuries that the victim received are "life-altering."  

"Our thoughts are with the victim and her family during this extremely difficult time," Halton Police said in the news release.
