BurlingtonToday welcomes letters to the editor at b[email protected]. Please include your daytime phone number and address (for verification of authorship, not publication). The following letter was received from the volunteer organizers of the Burlington chapter of Fill a Purse for a Sister.
We would like to thank the many individuals that generously donated one, two or five purses to our Fill A Purse for a Sister campaign this year. We increased our donations from 164 purses last year to 358 purses this year.
Many organizations donated this year, which helped us achieve the increase in the number of purses collected. A big thank you to The Burlington Curling Club on New Street, Burlington Golf and Country Curling Club, Alley Cats Bowling League and Angela Biskup and the Polish Community.
The organizations we gave to this year:
- Good Shepherd
- Mission Services
- Salvation Army
- Interval House
- Shifra House
- Halton Women’s Centre
- Burlington Food Bank
We donated in total:
- 358 purses
- Over $1,500 in gift cards, including $500 in Tim Hortons cards that we gave to the Salvation Army; the remainder was used to buy hats for the purses, diapers, baby food, baby wipes, shampoo, body lotion and kids' pyjamas
- Lots of beautiful hand-knitted items for both adults and babies
Thanks so much for the coverage this year, it was a pleasure working with you.
