Burlington celebrates Legion Week Sept. 17-23

Legion membership is open to everyone, says Branch 60 2nd vice-president Terry Scott

The Royal Canadian Legion flag is flying high at Burlington’s City Hall this week.

The Royal Canadian Legion set aside Sept. 17-23 as Legion Week across Canada and a flag raising ceremony was held Thursday to recognize the ways the Legion impacts the city.

Legion Branch 60 public relations officer and second vice-president Terry Scott said he would like to see more people come out to the Legion, since it’s open to everybody.

You do not have to be a member to visit the lounge and museum or enjoy the Legion’s hospitality including pool tables, dart boards and entertainment.

And don’t forget Fridays: the Legion encourages everyone to consider joining and volunteering at Fish 'n Chips night.

Burlington Mayor Marianne Meed Ward was happy to hoist the flag and recognize the Legion's support for the community.

She read a proclamation stating that the Royal Canadian legion is committed to veterans and their families and the community they call home, continuing the tradition of remembrance and honouring our military heritage. The Legion supports local charities, youth development, seniors’ care and community service.

“Burlington has always honoured the efforts and sacrifices made by the Armed Forces and the community spirit of our own Burlington Branch 60 – the best Legion in the country,” Meed Ward stated.

The City believes in the tenets of remembrance and veteran care for all who have served and are serving.

Meed Ward added that Branch 60 is a strong community member that supports numerous causes and charities.
