Tree-climbing championship draws a crowd in Burlington

Professional arborists show off their skills at LaSalle Park

The 33rd annual Ontario Tree Climbing Championship (OTCC) has been a big hit this weekend at Burlington's LaSalle Park.

Events started Friday afternoon and were slated to  continue until 6 p.m. on Saturday (Sept. 16). Some 25 men and 10 women are taking part in the challenging event that includes speed drills, agility and more. For audience members, it's not only exciting, but stressful watching them demonstrate their skills in five preliminary events: aerial rescue, work climb, ascent, belayed speed climb, and throwline.

The top top three men and women will go on to compete at the 2023 Masters competition.

The OTCC brings together arborists and industry members from across the province for the competitive event. Everyone is welcome to attend the free event, featuring a tradeshow with vendors, and anyone can try the fun climb station under the guidance of a professional arborist.
