WW II Veteran

In Dundas on December 17, 2023, in his 103rd year. Dearly loved husband of Elizabeth (Betty) for 53 years. Born in Ninove, Belgium and immigrated to Canada in 1948. Loving stepfather of Eric (Brenda) Rooker, Keith (the late Patricia) Rooker. Proud and loving grandfather of Jessica, Ada, Robin, Michael and Scott, and many great grandchildren. Survived by his Siblings Arthur Wathelet, and Andree Wathelet of Belgium. Predeceased by sister Georgette Van de Ponseele of British Columbia; and brothers Alphonse Wathelet of Belgium; Rene Wathelet of Belgium; and Gerard Wathelet of France.

Paul was a Veteran of WWII serving with the French and Belgium Underground, and the Belgium Army Royal Fusiliers. Paul was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 60. Retired from Stelco engineering in 1983. After retiring, Paul learned the art of Silver Smith and Lapidary. He participated in various craft shows and became noted for his one-of-a-kind jewellery designs. His time was also spent volunteering with the Canadian Blood Service at mobile clinics. He enjoyed many happy days fishing at the cottage on Lake Nipissing.

In accordance with his wishes there will be no funeral service. Cremation has taken place. For those wishing to do so, memorial donations to the Ontario Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.
