Inquest into 2018 death of man in Burlington pushed to April

Halton Regional Police were involved in the exchange of gunshots.

The inquest into the death of Ahmadu Ahmed has been rescheduled to 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 24. Bonnie Goldberg will be the presiding officer. Roger Shallow and Richard Garwood-Jones will be inquest counsel.

Dr. Kenneth Peckham, Regional Supervising Coroner for Central Region, Central West Office, had announced the date for the inquest into the death of Ahmadu Ahmed to begin on Monday, Feb. 26.

Ahmed, 22, died in Burlington on September 22, 2018, following an exchange of gunshots involving officers of the Halton Regional Police. An inquest into his death is mandatory under the Coroners Act.

The inquest will examine the circumstances surrounding Ahmed’s death. The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing further deaths.

The inquest is expected to last 18 days and hear from approximately 22 witnesses.
