ACTION Milton held a community meeting on the proposed quarry in March.

A petition urging Doug Ford to stop the proposed Campbellville quarry has garnered more than 200 signatures in a day.

ACTION Milton, the grassroots organization behind the petition, sought to keep the quarry issue “in the public eye” during the provincial byelection and put pressure on the premier to “fulfill his promise” before election day on May 2.

The online petition is addressed to the Legislative Assembly of Ontario, with calls to end the ongoing environmental assessment process; deny a licence to extract aggregate or to operate an asphalt reprocessing facility; and permanently protect the site by making it conservation lands.

According to the group, the petition will be read in the Legislature.
