Theatre Burlington’s critically acclaimed production of Edward Albee’s Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf was not only a hit with audiences, but recently received 10 out-of-festival nominations from the Western Ontario Drama League (WODL).

Nominations include outstanding production, outstanding direction for Deb Dagenais,  outstanding ensemble, as well as acting nods for Kelly Kimpton and Mark Ellis for outstanding performances in a lead role. Dagenais was also nominated for outstanding direction by a first time director.

On the technical side, Virginia Woolf was nominated for best costumes (Barbara Pollard), best set design (Michelle Spanik) and outstanding lighting design (Tricia Ward). In addition, Mark Collis and John Spanik were nominated for an award of merit behind the scenes, for their design and build of a prop “umbrella gun."

Award winners will be announced at a ceremony in London, Ont., on May 17-18.

WODL is an umbrella organization supporting community theatre groups stretching from Burlington west to Sarnia and north to Tobermory.

Prior to Covid, a weekend festival was held every year to celebrate the best of community theatre.  A return of the in-person festival is expected for the 2024-25 season.
