Josh Belgrave led the Plattsburgh State Cardinals to a pair of wins, earning State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) player-of-the-week honours and helping the team take over top spot in the national Division III hockey rankings.
The sophomore forward scored a shorthanded goal as Plattsburgh built a 4-0 lead against Genesco and scored his second of the game to cap Friday’s 6-2 victory.
Belgrave set up the winning goal in the third period of a 3-1 win over Brockport Saturday and then added an insurance goal.
Belgrave, who played for his hometown Burlington Cougars before college, leads Plattsburgh in both goals (six) and points (nine) as Plattsburgh improved to 5-0-0 on the season.
Plattsburgh received eight of the 20 first-place votes as the Cardinals rose from No. 3 to No. 1 in the national rankings.
