Oakville Rock on a quest for national senior B lacrosse title

The Oakville Rock will try to capture the Canadian senior B lacrosse title on their home floor.

The Rock includes three Burlington players, Ryan Lanchbury, Luke Robinson and Callum Jones.

Lanchbury came through in the deciding game of the Ontario final, scoring three times and setting up seven more as the Rock defeated Six Nations 16-10.

Oakville took the opening game of the series 12-10, but Six Nations forced a deciding game with an 11-7 victory in Game 2, ending the Rock’s 19-game winning streak.

Oakville begins its quest for the President’s Cup, the national senior B championship, on Sunday in a rematch of the Ontario final against the Six Nations Rivermen at 5 p.m.

Oakville then faces the Tuscarora Tomahawks Monday at 8 p.m. before a Tuesday doubleheader, at 11 a.m. versus the Edmonton Miners and at 8 p.m. against the Snake Island Muskies. Oakville plays the Ladner Pioneers at 8 p.m. Wednesday and then wraps up the round robin against Kahnawake Mohawks Thursday at 8 p.m.

The top four teams advance to the semifinals (3 and 7 p.m.) on Friday, Sept. 1 with the championship game Sept. 2 at 7 p.m. All games are at the Toronto Rock Athletic Centre.

Oakville finished the regular season 15-1, reeling off 15 straight wins after being edged 10-9 by Owen Sound in the season opener. Oakville avenged its lone loss by sweeping Owen Sound in three games in the first round of the playoffs, before beating Six Nations in the final.

Lanchbury led the Ontario Sr. B league in goals (36), assists (51) and points (87). He added 12 goals and 32 points in five playoff games.

Robinson averaged more than a goal a game for the Rock with 20 goals and 41 points in 16 games. Jones, a defender, had three goals and six assists in 11 games.
