Burlington’s Lauren Male and Abbie Wade were honoured by Ontario University Athletics for their outstanding seasons.

Male, a prop for the Western Mustangs, was named to the OUA women’s rugby first all-star team. The third-year student scored two tries for the Mustangs, who went 4-2 to finish fourth in the 10-team league.

Western shut out Waterloo 53-0 in the quarterfinals but fell to the defending champion Queen’s 45-5 in the semifinals.

Wade was named to the OUA second team. The Brock Badgers’ captain scored two tries and coach Mark Smerdon said the third-year scrum half “is a multi-tool player, being able to pass off both hands, box kick when needed and provide strong and effective tackling.”

Brock finished third in the OUA with a 4-2 record and was ranked as high as seventh nationally during the season.

Brock defeated the University of Toronto 43-7 in the quarterfinals before being shut out by Guelph 50-0 in the semifinals.
