May 3rd, 1934 - April 19th, 2024

Peacefully, on April 19th, 2024, our beloved mother and grandmother, Eva passed away surrounded by the love of her family, at the age of 89. Eva was born in Zurrieq, Malta on May 3, 1934. She lived through extremely difficult times. First the Great Depression and then World War II. Despite these challenges, Eva grew extremely resilient, determined and independent. These qualities supported her throughout her life. On this island paradise in the Mediterranean Sea, she met Charles Abdilla (deceased 2005) and married him. Together they immigrated to Canada to build a new life. First living in Toronto, then moving to Burlington, Ontario they purchased a house and made it home to their four children: Frank, Nelson (deceased 2015), Alexander and Riva.

Eva was the heart of our home and family. She raised her four children in a nurturing home that was full of love and kindness. She taught her children to be independent, hardworking, honest and thoughtful adults. After Charles took ill from a massive stroke, Eva cared for him at home for over three decades while she held two jobs to support her family. She was a tremendous homemaker and a wonderful cook. There was always a homemade hot meal on the table and freshly washed clothes hanging from the clothesline.

Eva's greatest joy in life was her grandchildren: Gabriel (deceased 1997), Madeleine and Jing. She was a proud Nanna and adored and supported her grandchildren with her wisdom and kindness throughout their lives. She will be deeply missed.

Arrangements entrusted to Smith's Funeral Home
