Much loved wife of Beverly Charles Wallace Alexander for 65 years. Terribly proud mother of Deb (Gord), Beth (Dean), Jackie (Jim). Dear grandmother of Alex, Alanna, Drew, Brian, Laura, Zack and Koen. She is predeceased by her parents Anne and Roy Acker and brothers George (Mary) and Bill (Madeline).

Mom was always very dedicated as an Executive Assistant first at City Hall in Saint John, NB, then in Hamilton, adding Bookkeeping to her role in a law firm. Somehow amongst work and mothering, she found the time to attend university night school achieving a Bachelor of Arts degree from McMaster University.

Mom was the president of the Probus Club of Burlington enjoying their many outings. One of which, was a tour of Great Britain where she was given the nickname Lady Kodak as a result of her keen interest in creating photographic memories of the trip. Mom and Dad enjoyed travelling by cruise ship, and were able to see most of the world that way.

An excellent seamstress, Mom kept us beautifully dressed throughout our childhood - even making clothes for our Barbie's. Later in life, her creativity with fabrics led her to quilt making and advanced cross stitch. She was incredibly resourceful and often came up with creative little solutions for everyday things that needed fixing. Mom enjoyed playing the piano, tap dancing and clogging, reading, doing crosswords and volunteering at the local blood donor clinic. Having been involved with the Status of Women movement in the 1970s, Mom encouraged us to use our voices as females. As a breast cancer survivor for over 40 years, she showed courage and strength and inspired us to meet life's challenges head on. Mom’s often quiet strength is something we admired and inherited.

We would like to thank the team at Joseph Brant Hospital for their amazing compassion, care and support. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations in Phyllis' honour to Joseph Brant Hospital Foundation, St. Luke’s Anglican Church, Burlington or any other charity of your choice.

A celebration of life will be held t St. Luke's Anglican Church (1371 Elgin St., Burlington) on Wednesday, April 24, 2024 at 1 p.m.

Arrangements entrusted to Smith's Funeral Home
