The family of Susan Ann Lennard are saddened to announce that Susan passed away peacefully at her home in Burlington on July 30, 2023. Susan was a loved member of our family. She was a caring daughter to her parents, Bonnie and Harry; sister to Kirsten, Michael, and her twin Karen; sister-in-law to Jim, Lee, and Daniel; cherished grand-daughter to Gladys and Bert, and Joy and Willard; devoted and loving Auntie to Kara, Elizabeth, Anna, Sean, Ben, Catherine, and Robbie; and long-time friend to Ed Mason and others. Susan received special loving kindness from many members of her family, but especially from her father on a daily basis.

She also appreciated her relationship with Dr. Beth Ames. First and foremost, Susan took delight in all her nieces and nephews. They were the light of her life. She was very fond of them and was always interested in their activities and achievements, cherishing phone calls with them and sending them thoughtfully worded cards for special occasions.

Susan graduated from Central Public and Central High Schools in Burlington, then she attended Sheridan College in the field of Early Childhood Education. Following in Susan’s footsteps, her niece Anna will be beginning her own studies in this program next month. Susan spent some years as a loving nanny for a number of young children — something which gave her great satisfaction and joy. Upon arrival at the home of the children she cared for as a nanny, Susan came equipped with a specially packed bag of crafts, puzzles, and other activities that she and the child would work on during their day together.

Susan was a person of great faith. She read scriptures daily, prayed faithfully for her family and friends, attended courses at Singing Waters for years, and was able to quote passages from the Bible. Susan was a very creative person and loved to paint scenes of nature, and was inspired by her artist friend, Ed Mason, who was a constant companion to her for over 20 years. Together, Susan and Ed took cooking and art classes, went to IKEA for dinner, and generally enjoyed each other’s company.

In her younger years, Susan studied ballet for 14 years, later became a cycling enthusiast, was a strong and accomplished swimmer, and was lithe and dexterous on gymnastics equipment. Susan appreciated long drives through nature and often pointed out the changing colours of the leaves and the flowering trees. This was especially noted at our family cottage at the Lake of Bays. In this way, she was a great appreciator of this Earth, seeing it as God’s gift to us.

Susan will be missed by many. The family invites loved ones, extended family, and friends to a Celebration of Life held at Smith’s Funeral Home, 485 Brant Street (one block north of City Hall) , Burlington, at 1:00 pm on Thursday, August 3rd, led by Reverend Deacon Sheila Plant, followed by a reception. If desired, donations in Susan’s memory may be made to St. Luke’s Burlington.
