March 21st, 1964 - April 18th, 2024

Died peacefully at Carpenter Hospice on April 18th with his friend Jonathan by his side. Jonathan was one of Robert’s caregivers while he lived at Sutton House in Oakville. He will be laid to rest on April 26th 2024 between his beloved parents Michael and Anna Walter in Windsor Ontario at Heavenly Rest Cemetery.

Rob leaves behind his sister Gertrude Colasanti (Cesare) and brother Garry Walter (Liz) as well as nieces Jenn (Doug) and Kim (Devin) and nephew Martin (Melanie) as well as great nieces & nephews Annabelle, Beckett, Camden, Maggie & Michael.

Robert loved listening to music, especially German folk music that he listened to with his dad on Sunday afternoons. He liked to watch old tv shows and knew the broadcast schedule off by heart. He enjoyed his meals and he especially loved his mother’s cooking and eating her Chicken Paprikas and her lemon cake which was a family favourite and lives on as “Oma’s Lemon Cake.”

Rob was born in Winnipeg and moved to Windsor at an early age. When he finished school he attended day programming through Community Living Essex County. We would like to thank them for the years of support that he received while living in Windsor. After his mother passed away he moved to Burlington to live with his brother and sister-in-law and a year later moved into Sutton House in Oakville.

The family wishes to thank the kind people who have supported Robert throughout the years especially but not limited to Isaac from Community Living Oakville. Shawna, Jonathan, Shila, Terry and Zoey from Sutton House and Josie who worked with Robert in the day program that he attended. Thank you to Lynda Kayama Robert’s Home-care Coordinator who fought so hard to make sure that Robert received the support that he needed. Dr. Benjamin, the nurses and the PSW’s who worked to make him comfortable.

Robert was able to spend his last days at Carpenter Hospice in Burlington and we are so grateful for that. Even though his time in the hospice was short we were made to feel like family and the staff was so caring and did their best to keep Robert comfortable.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to either Community Living EssexCommunity Living OakvilleCarpenter Hospice Burlington or a charity of your choice.
