OPP closed Hwy. 6 North Sunday morning for an investigation.

One woman is in critical condition and another is injured after a shooting early Sunday morning on Hwy. 6 North in Millgrove.

Burlington's detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to the scene just after 5 a.m., where two women believed to be in their 20s had been shot.

Hamilton paramedic superintendent David Thompson told FlamboroughToday the woman in critical condition had "life-threatening" injuries, while the other woman was in "serious" condition.

He said both women were taken to a local trauma centre. There have been no updates on the status of either woman since paramedics responded.

Burlington OPP are looking for any witnesses or dash camera footage of the shooting, which happened between 5th Concession East and 5th Concession West. The investigation closed the road for most of the day Sunday.

On Sunday evening, OPP Sgt. Kerri Schmidt said the Highway Safety Division Crime Unit and the OPP Forensic Identification Services are seeking witnesses who were in the area at the time of the incident.

Ward 15 Coun. Ted McMeekin told FlamboroughToday, "There is no place in our society for these kind of violent acts. My prayers go out to the two young women seriously wounded."

He said he hopes more background on the shooting will be uncovered when the two women are able to speak with officers, and that he is in contact with the OPP's crime unit for any updates.

Anyone with information or footage is encouraged to contact the Burlington OPP at 905-681-2511 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
