Fleeing suspect drives through park, on walkways before arrest

Police seek witnesses in dangerous driving incident Friday near Sherwood Forest Park

The Halton Regional Police is seeking witnesses to a dangerous driving incident in Burlington on Friday that resulted in a long list of charges for one driver.

On March 8 at approximately 8:47 a.m., police responded to a report of a single vehicle accident on Fairview Street in the area of Sherwood Forest Park.

"HRPS officers arrived observing a blue Honda Civic which immediately fled the scene driving dangerously through the park grounds, on walkways and pathways, in an effort to evade police," police said in a news release.

Officers searched the area and located the vehicle at the intersection of New Street and Appleby Line, where they safely stopped the vehicle and took a suspect into custody, police said.

Two police vehicles sustained minor damage, but no injuries were reported, according to police.

Nikolas Claros, 37, of no fixed address, has been charged with:

  • Disobeying Order of Court
  • Flight from Peace Officer
  • Operation while Impaired - Alcohol and Drugs
  • Possession of Automobile Master Key
  • Possession of Break-in Instruments
  • Dangerous Operation of Motor Vehicle
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000
  • Unauthorized Possession of Weapon
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order (two counts)
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 (two counts)
  • Possession Schedule 1 Substance - Methamphetamines, Cocaine, and Fentanyl (three counts)
  • Operation while prohibited (seven counts)
  • Fail to remain
  • Drive while under suspension (two counts)

Claros is being held in custody pending a bail hearing.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and Claros is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
