Halton Regional Police are reminding local residents to be aware of vehicles that may be following them after a recent attempted auto theft in Milton.

On Nov. 4, police say a Halton resident was driving home from Toronto when they noticed a vehicle following them.

When they parked in a driveway, the occupants of the other vehicle - who were masked - approached the vehicle, but fled after realizing the driver was on the phone, according to police.

"The individual was on the phone with police, who were able to quickly respond to the area and successfully locate the suspect vehicle nearby," police said in a press release.

Three people were arrested and police say a search of the vehicle led to finding a Winchester air pistol under the driver's seat.

As a result, 20-year-old Vineet Chopra of Toronto, 24-year-old Gurpreet Singh Sasn of Scarborough and 19-year-old Mandeep Singh of Cambridge have been charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, theft of motor vehicle, and disguise with intent.

All persons charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Anyone with information about this investigation is asked to contact 1 District Criminal Investigations Bureau at 905-825-4777, ext. 2416.
