More than a dozen police cars blocked Mainway during an incident Friday afternoon.

Halton Regional Police have taken a man into custody following a lengthy interaction this afternoon.

Around 4 p.m. today, police closed Walker's Line at Mainway for a person with weapon inside a vehicle.

“I saw at least 18 police cars from where I was,” an employee, who asked to remain anonymous, in a nearby office that was locked down, told BurlingtonToday. “They were all over Mainway.”

He he saw officers arrest someone after only 10 or 15 minutes, before the rest of the incident lasted another two and a half hours.

“As the police presence increased they were expanding the radius, blocking off side streets, telling more pedestrians to leave, and telling people inside to stay away from the windows” he said.

The employee said officers started letting people leave if they were parked on the other side of the building, and that his office specifically was under a strong lockdown because they were told, a gun was pointed in their direction.

He added his company was alerted to the situation at 3:37 p.m., and they were told they could leave at 5:39 p.m.

Halton Police tweeted later that the situation had been resolved and the shelter in place order was lifted, but the road remains closed for an investigation.
