The first full week of May marks National Hospice Palliative Care Week in Canada. It is a time to celebrate and highlight the incredible work being done to provide quality palliative care across the country.

This year's theme, "Palliative Care is For You," aims to raise awareness and foster communities that value palliative care's incredible support. We all deserve to know how palliative care can help when life-limiting illness touches our lives.

At Carpenter Hospice, this week, which overlaps with National Nursing Week, is an opportunity to celebrate and highlight the incredible work done by its entire team. Whether it's nurses, support workers or administration staff, we ensure everyone is included," said John Gilbert, Fund Development Manager.

The Hospice has planned several activities, including a butterfly campaign to acknowledge and recognize its team members. Staff, volunteers, visitors, and community members are encouraged to write a short note of appreciation. "We want them to know that their impact is monumental for this community," John said. The butterflies will be posted throughout the Hospice as a meaningful sign of gratitude.

The community also shows appreciation with a treat or meal for staff throughout the week. This year, Dodsworth & Brown - Burlington Chapel, Rendezvous Submarine Shop, and Duck Donuts will continue their participation. "Together with our community partners, we thank our staff and recognize the impact hospice palliative care has on families. It's so generous of them and a great way for the community to show their support," said Kim Pearson, Executive Director.

National Hospice Palliative Care Week highlights the need and importance of hospice palliative care in our community. It teaches people about the incredible care that helps countless people, and their loved ones live fully at every stage of illness.
