Joseph Brant Hospital focuses on person-centred care beyond the diagnosis

A large proportion of cancer care can be coordinated locally

At Joseph Brant Hospital’s (JBH) oncology clinic, it’s about more than a diagnosis and the statistic - it is about the person.

And it starts from the moment you walk into the clinic. The hospital looks out over the shores of Lake Ontario, providing a serene view for patients going through a challenging time. But it’s really the people who are providing the care that make all the difference.

JBH heard first-hand from patients about their positive experiences receiving care that it is the warmth and the dedication of the staff who have given them comfort during a stressful time.

For some individuals who have received cancer diagnoses, the ensuing months can involve hours of driving to a different city for treatment. It can make treatment more stressful and difficult to juggle with other life responsibilities.

At Joseph Brant, a majority of cancer care can be coordinated at the hospital. From the moment of diagnosis, the team there walks patients through treatment options and next steps. A large portion of a patient’s treatment can be done close to home.

For those who may be considering giving to charity this holiday season, your donation will go towards purchasing necessary equipment to continue to provide care to patients. Government funding goes towards the operation of a hospital, but tools and equipment are largely purchased with funds from generous community donations.

Receiving a cancer diagnosis is a difficult experience for the patient and those close to them. Something as simple as receiving treatment in the city you live in can have an enormous impact. The better equipped a hospital is, the better care they can provide to their community.
