Welcome to 'This Is Burlington'

To mark the one-year anniversary of BurlingtonToday, we're excited to launch a new feature series that answers the question: what makes our city special?

What makes Burlington home? The answer may be just a little bit different for everyone, but we've come up with a few of the people, places and things that make our city unique.

What makes Burlington special?

Of course, it has miles of stunning lakefront trails. And yes, it has cultural gems like the Royal Botanical Gardens, the art gallery and the performing arts centre. It even boasts world-class festivals that draw multitudes of visitors to a vibrant downtown.

But what, we wanted to know, truly makes our city tick?

We’re excited to be launching a special series today that looks at exactly that — just in time for the one-year anniversary of this local news site, BurlingtonToday.

For the next few weeks, we will be running feature stories about the people, businesses and unique corners tucked away in Burlington that make it not just a great city, but a great community.

But, to be clear, this series isn’t the best business list, the most popular list or the top 10 places to live list.

This is the best-kept-secret neighourhood diner.

This is the guy everyone counts on at the local hockey rink.

This is the little shop that’s a treat for everyone who stops in.

This is the people, places and things that make us feel at home.

This is Burlington.

We know it’s not an exhaustive list, and we know you’ll have a few of your own favourites to add — please don’t be shy about sharing them.

But we do hope you enjoy reading these stories as much as we have enjoyed working on them.
