There's lots of green space at parks around the city, argues letter writer

BurlingtonToday received the following letter to the editor from reader Bob Derham regarding recent coverage of the Tyandaga Golf Course public consultation.

I just read the article on the Tyandaga meeting by Julie Slack. There were several items left out:

  1. When asked who wants to retain the 18-hole course, the majority of attendees (my guess is about 90 per cent) voted in the affirmative.
  2. When asked how many would continue to play the course if it were reduced to nine holes, no one raised their hand.
  3. When asked about data that was supposedly collected on errant balls, they would not reveal the data, claiming the lawyers were against it.
  4. With respect to green space: the golf course is green space and is actively used during the golf season. It is normal to have a full slate of tee times. Additionally, there is Bronte Park, LaSalle Park and other parks that provide large amounts of green space.
  5. Some of the councillors appeared to be annoyed that this has even been brought up as a topic of discussion.

Keeping Tyandaga an 18 hole-course and improving it with cart paths and restoring holes to their original configuration is the best solution, in my opinion.

Bob Derham, Burlington
