Burlington lacrosse star Brownell launches chiropractic clinic

ALTA Spine & Sports Therapy to offer full complement of treatment options

A familiar face in the Burlington sports community has launched a new chiropractic clinic in Waterdown.

Central High School alum and pro lacrosse player Kevin Brownell and wife Taryn Thomas celebrated the grand opening of ALTA Spine & Sports Therapy at 145 Hamilton St. North last Saturday (June 17).

Brownell, who earned his Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Robert Morris University, will focus on sports therapy while Thomas, a Timmins native who received her degree from Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in Toronto, will provide a range of treatment techniques, with a special focus on female health, pregnancy and postpartum rehabilitation.

Brownell said their areas of specialty complement each other.

"My focus is sports therapy, while Taryn will focus on female care, pregnancy and kids,” he said.

Brownell’s brother Stuart - whom he played alongside on the Central hockey team and who played Division 1 hockey in Rochester – is a registered physiotherapist on the ALTA team. Rounding out the clinic’s staff is registered physiotherapist Ethan Kazemir.

Brownell, 34, attended Robert Morris in Pittsburgh on a lacrosse scholarship; most recently, he played in the National Lacrosse League, signing with the New York Riptide last August. He has also been on the Jr. A Burlington Blaze coaching squad.

He noted that the Waterdown location is a good fit for ALTA.

“Burlington has a lot of really good sports clinics,” he said, adding that the Flamborough community is growing. “Waterdown is a really good niche for us.”
