Video production studio space built ‘for creatives by creatives’ opens in Burlington

KIC Studios is co-owned by Raymond Tuquero and Meghan Uhlman

A new space for film production has opened its doors in Burlington, ready for creatives to fill it with projects.

KIC Studios grand opening was held this afternoon, recognizing the launch of co-owners’ Raymond Tuquero and Meghan Uhlman’s vision coming to fruition.

Tuquero and Uhlman co-own the video production company Creative Crunch, and noticed there was no studio space nearby that could meet their needs.

“When we’re looking at studio spaces for our own productions, we tend to have to go all the way into Toronto,” Tuquero said.

After talking to fellow filmmakers, Tuquero and Uhlman realized many of them were looking for a space where they wouldn’t get into trouble for noise or other atmospheric effects needed for film production.

“We’re aiming for creatives and letting them come in and utilize the space, build out for them. We don’t want to have this space just for us. We want this for the community of creatives,” Tuquero said.

KIC Studios is located at 3517 Mainway.

“We ended up in Burlington because we also live in the area. We felt like it was time for them to have their own space for the creatives that are in this side of town,” Tuquero said.

KIC Studios has several set ups ready for filming, including a restaurant scene, medical scene and living room scene.

“(Clients) typically ask for a space that’s made for them,” Tuquero said. “We can make a living room scene that’s best for their product or the services they’re creating. And they can be in an open space, they can be creative, they can be loud.”

Tuquero has been in the industry since 2004 as a camera operator, but five years ago when he moved to Canada from the U.S. he started to deal with different sets for filming. That’s when the idea was sparked to create a studio space in Burlington.
“This space was made for creatives by creatives,” Tuquero said.
