UPDATE: Grass fires force Fire Department to shut down major roads at rush hour

The Burlington Fire Department has shut down areas of Main way, Upper Middle, and Appleby

Multiple roads are shut down in Burlington due to grass fires. 

The fires started near the train tracks between Guelph and Appleby earlier this afternoon. Halton Police and the Burlington Fire Department have shut down Mainway east of Walkers, Upper Middle west of Appleby, and Appleby north of Upper Middle. Just prior to 5 p.m. Appleby Line was reopened north of Upper Middle Road.

Burlington Fire has also requested aid from Oakville Fire to help with the blaze. Heavy smoke and low visibility is also reported in the area.
