Plenty of family fun at Burlington Fill the Truck event tomorrow

All proceeds boost the Burlington Helping Burlington food drive

The Burlington Helping Burlington crew of volunteers are gearing up for their second community event of the campaign this weekend.

Fill the Truck will be a family-friendly event featuring  clowns, balloons, refreshments and hot chocolate. The 905 Game Zone will also be on site.

It all  takes place on Saturday, Nov. 4 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the 1377 Walkers LIne church. Non-perishable food items as well as monetary donations (cash, credit or debit) will be accepted.

According to the Burlington Helping Burlington Facebook page, dozens of local businesses have come on board to sponsor what organizers hope will be the biggest food drive in the city’s history. The campaign launched Oct. 1 and will wrap up at the end of December.

Several companies and individuals are organizing events to boost the drive, including a mini (20-minute) photo session with Figments of June slated for Nov. 19 at Kerncliff Park. It will be offered on a “pay what you can” basis, with 50 per cent of the proceeds going to Burlington Helping Burlington.

Some of the items collected have already been distributed, including a delivery of three bins to Halton Food 4 Kids earlier this week.

All food donations from the Burlington Helping Burlington Drive will support the Burlington Food Bank and Food 4 Kids Halton, while cash contributions will be directed to Compassion Society of Halton, Reach Out Centre for Kids (ROCK), Rotary Club of Burlington, United Way Halton, Halton Women’s Place, Shifra Homes, Carpenter House and Woodview Mental Health and Autism Centre.
