Folks of all ages and all walks of life are invited to lace up to boost the Joseph Brant Hospital Foundation this Sunday (Oct. 1).

The Run for Burlington is organized by Mercy 4 Mankind - a subsidiary of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association (AMYA) -  and is open to anyone who wants to participate.

“Our goal is to contribute towards the community and to be there for people in need,” says Fatir Chaudry, community engagement representative for the event.

Last year - the first for the local event - 240 people registered and 150 runners, volunteers and guests turned out for the run despite rainy conditions, and raised $10,000 for the hospital foundation. Organizers expect to surpass that amount this year, said Chaudry.

The run takes place at 9 a.m. at Spencer Smith Park, and several dignitaries will be on hand to send off the participants. There is a 5K route for those who want to challenge themselves, a 3K route for a more relaxed run, and a 1K route for those who want to walk.
