Sahaja Yoga group welcomed spring with a multi-faceted celebration

Festival of New Beginnings also launched 100 Seeds of Joy, which aims to organize 100 free mental wellness sessions in the community this year

About 200 guests turned out to welcome the new season at a special event at the Art Gallery of Burlington March 18.

The Sahaja Yoga Meditation Network organized the multifaceted celebration, proclaimed “Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi Day,” with Festival of New Beginnings, an afternoon of music, poetry, guided meditation and gift-giving.

Dignitaries who attended included Sanjeev Saklani, Head of Chancery at the Consulate General of India, Burlington Mayor Marianne Meed Ward and Ward 5 Coun. Paul Sharman.

In addition to the spring equinox, the event marked the 100th birthday of Sahaja Yoga founder Shri Mataji, the Eastern European tradition of Mărțișor and Nawroz, the Iranian New Year, as well as International Women’s Day.

As part of the festivities, and in honour of Burlington's 150th birthday, the non-profit volunteer organization, which has been offering free community yoga classes in Halton for 18 years, launched its 100 Seeds of Joy campaign with the aim of leading 100 free inner peace and self-realization sessions throughout the coming year.
