Step back to the '80s at Compassion Society fundraising dance

Dust off your leg warmers and get ready to dance up a storm for a good cause

Anyone who likes '80s music, likes to dance and likes to help others will want to be at the Burlington Legion for a special event this fall.

The Compassion Society of Halton is holding an '80s Dance Party at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 13, at the Legion Branch 60, featuring Burlington band Pop Machine Trio.

Compassion Society board member and Burlington resident Robert Radway is helping promote the event that he promises will be a great time.

The Burlington Central High School teacher said the band that has been around for decades is well known and he expects people will have a great evening dancing and enjoying games, 50/50 draws, finger foods and more.

Tickets, which are $40 per person are on sale now online.

Over the last 23 years, the Compassion Society of Halton has been helping families all over Halton.

“Some of these families have children, some have lost their position; we help any family or any individual who is suffering, whether it be mental health illness, alcoholism – the people we help come from all walks of life.”

Radway said there is capacity at the venue for 500 people, so he'd be thrilled if they could sell that number of tickets.

He said they are still looking for sponsors for the evening as well to help cover costs of the band, food and other necessities.

“We’re excited to offer another event to help our community,” he added. “We want to be able to help anyone in need at any time and these fundraisers help to make that possible.”

The Compassion Society provides non-perishable, perishable and frozen food items, hygiene, self-care items, clothing, special seasonal programs, social services and more. They serve residents from across Burlington, Oakville, Milton, Halton Hills, Acton and Georgetown.

The non-profit organization relies on volunteers, two staff members and the board of directors.

They are located at 1881 Fairview St. (at Brant Street) Units 4 and 5.
