Burlington teen charged after collision near Georgian Bay

MIDLAND – Police say a teenage driver from Burlington is facing impaired charges after a collision in a town near Georgian Bay early this morning.

At around 1:30 a.m., a driver reported seeing a vehicle fail to stop for a stop sign and enter a ditch at the intersection of Brunelle Sideroad and Fuller Drive in Midland.

Four people were seen exiting the vehicle and leaving the area on foot, police said in a news release.

Members of the Southern Georgian Bay OPP arrived on scene minutes later and located the occupants of the vehicle.

Police suspected the driver had been drinking. The driver was arrested and transported to the detachment to provide breath samples.

As a result of the investigation, a 17-year-old male from Burlington was charged with operation while impaired and operation over 80 milligrams.

The accused was released to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Midland at a later date.

His driver's license was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

The driver's name cannot be published under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
