The Halton Regional Police Service has charged a pair of individuals and is currently looking for a third person in relation to the recovery of 17 stolen vehicles.

Members of the Regional Auto Theft Task Force identified two suspects last month that they believed were responsible for shipping stolen vehicles overseas.

During the investigation, stolen vehicles were brought to an industrial warehouse in Burlington and were later seen being loaded onto sea containers.

Working with the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), the containers were inspected and 17 stolen vehicles were recovered. The value of the vehicles is estimated at $1.5 million.

On Oct. 24, 2023, a search warrant was executed at the warehouse and two men were arrested.

Charged were Maxwell Asante, 39, of Brampton (nine counts of trafficking stolen property obtained by crime) and Isaac Osei Appiah, 37, of Brampton (six counts of trafficking stolen property obtained by crime)

A warrant has also been issued for a third man.
