Jamie MacIntyre is a dedicated, giving father here in Burlington who loves his community.

He can always be found helping others. Whether it is mowing the lawn, walking a pet or changing winter tires for a neighbour, or just lending an ear when someone is down, Jamie continues to care for everyone else, even as he faces his own health challenges.

“Growing up, we’ve always helped each other out,” Jamie said of his kindness. “It's just something that comes naturally and that has strengthened over time. If a neighbour needs a helping hand, I’m more than happy to help out. If they want to return the favour, that's wonderful. But there is no expectation of return.”

Jamie was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin follicular B-cell lymphoma and is now going through treatment

Through this adversity, he has inspired others with his positive spirit and dedication to his family and our community.

“Going through treatment and meeting people going through worse things gives you perspective,” said Jamie, “and it helped to keep my spirits up.”

To support Jamie throughout his recovery journey, we surprised him with a Random Act of Kindness from BurlingtonToday with the help of his wife, Jennifer.

We gifted Jamie and his family with treats to enjoy, gift cards to use to spend quality time together and window washing to help with home maintenance courtesy of our friends at Gorilla Property Services and QB Sports Bar Grill Games.

“I was completely surprised,” Jamie said. “I want to thank my wonderful partner Jenn. I managed to keep it together, but it was very emotional.”

“By nominating Jamie, I was hoping to respond in kind to his own acts of kindness and giving spirit,” Jennifer told BurlingtonToday. “He hasn’t had the summer we expected with having to do treatment but even during that he doesn't falter to support, stay active and remain kind-spirited.”

Thank you to our generous co-sponsors, Gorilla Property Services and QB Sports Bar Grill Games, for helping to make this Random Act of Kindness possible.

Our nomination form is always open to nominate someone in the community who selflessly gives of themselves despite challenges or hardships, is positive in the face of adversity, or is just plain extraordinary and deserves a special surprise.
