Cram-a-Cruiser food drive boosts St. Christopher's Open Doors

Strong community response fills six police cars with donations

Officers were on duty in the parking lot at the Appleby Line Fortino's store on Saturday (Nov. 5), collecting donations for the Halton Regional Police Service's Cram-a-Cruiser food drive. And once again, the local community responded generously.

According to organizer Cst. Kevin Bochsler, the initiative garnered about six police cars full of donated goods over four hours.

"We collected as much food as we expected if not more," he said.  "The community always pulls together and assists in these drives. All the proceeds go to St. Christopher's Church's Open Doors program."

Open Doors is operated by St. Christopher's Anglican Church on Guelph Line. The program includes a Community Meals initiative that offers an in-person hospitality hour and dinner each Tuesday and a lunch on Thursdays.

The program also runs a Community Market (formerly the Food Bank) that provides fresh, frozen and nutritious dry goods as well as personal items and diapers, with no proof of need required. Its Clothing Store is open on Tuesdays and Saturdays. Donations of clothing items are accepted at the church Wednesdays and Thursdays,
