Here's what's on in Burlington this weekend

Winter activities are a great way to shake off those January blues. Here are a few family events going on around town this weekend sure to keep everyone active and engaged:

Friday, Jan. 12

Burlington Blast Ringette tournament - Jan. 12-14 at Appleby Ice Surface

Come out and watch teams from across Ontario compete. There will also be an exhibition game between Brock University and the University of Guelph, a huge 50/50 draw (last year’s pot was over $25,000), a vendor room featuring  ringette equipment, crafts & food, and a large silent auction with over 20 different items up for bids. Saturday, Jan. 13

Winter Fun Day - Rotary Centennial Pond at Spencer Smith Park, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Winter Fun Day is hosted by the City of Burlington and Cogeco. The event features free hot chocolate and coffee, along with cookies and prizes for attendees. The City of Burlington events team will also be on-site with outdoor Play Lending equipment for everyone to use.

Movies at the Museum - Joseph Brant Museum, 1-2:30 pm 

Screening of “Making Waves: The Art of Cinematic Sound” featuring interviews with Hollywood directors such as George Lucas,  Steven Spielberg and Barbra Streisand. Tickets are $12 per adult, $10 per child (ages 3 -12) and include admission to Joseph Brant Museum, popcorn and light refreshments. Film begins at 1 p.m., and is one hour, 34 minutes long. Duck Off tournament - LaSalle Park, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

A friendly competition between Hamilton and Toronto. The event promises to be a nail biting tournament of duck watching as Toronto vs Hamilton off in the second annual Duck Off. Join us in hopes of experiencing the most species of ducks at LaSalle Park in Burlington - a favourite wintering location for many wonderfully weird waterfowl!
