The Ontario Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of an early morning fire on Koenig Road on Saturday.
According to a communications spokesperson, the Burlington Fire Department received a call at 2:56 a.m. on Aug. 19. Six Burlington Fire apparatus were dispatched to the site, along with an aerial unit from the Oakville Fire Department.
When crews arrived at the scene, they found multiple active fires. They were able to contain the spread by around 3:24 a.m., and knocked down the main fire by 4:46 a.m. The fire was “relatively under control” by around 6:30 a.m., said the spokesperson.
In total, eight homes were damaged in the blaze; only one was occupied and the other seven were under construction.
According to the Burlington Fire Department, seven homes were completely destroyed by the fire. Damage is estimated at $8 million.
One person was injured as they evacuated their home. They were treated by Emergency Services personnel at the scene and released.
Halton police have kept the scene secure and an Ontario Fire Marshal investigator has been on-site to determine whether the fires are suspicious in nature, said the spokesperson.
