OLT moves Millcroft hearing to March

Millcroft Greens Corp. launched appeal after council failed to reach decision on proposed development

An appeal related to a controversial proposed development in Millcroft will not be considered until March.

At an Ontario Lands Tribunal case management meeting on Monday, the matter was moved forward at the request of the City of Burlington.

Council has yet to make a decision on the development of a proposed 90 homes and a six-storey apartment building across five parcels of land.

The developer, Millcroft Greens Corp., launched an appeal against the city in the summer after council failed to make a decision on their application within the required 120-day time frame.

As a result, the process now falls under the Ontario Land Tribunal.

In a short hearing on the matter, a new date was set for March 7, 2023 and a number of groups and individuals were granted party status for that hearing, including Millcroft Against Bad Development (MAD) and Conservation Halton.

There is much opposition to the proposed development around Millcroft Golf Course, with those opposed citing a loss of green space, flooding concerns, construction disruptions and property value impacts.

MAD currently has two petitions running against the proposed development.

"The Millcroft golf course supports an established natural ecosystem, provides much-needed green space in north Burlington, is critical to flood water control, and is the heart of the community," the petition says. "It is in all Burlington residents’ best interests to preserve this invaluable parcel of green space."
